India's education and skill development sector is projected to grow to USD 313 billion by 2030, driven by transformative initiatives like PMKVY, which has trained over 1.42 crore youth nationwide. Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront of this revolution, with innovative programs such as Mukhyamantri Seekho Kamao Yojana, empowering its growing workforce and preparing it for the future, according to a state government document.
Madhya Pradesh's skill development initiatives aim to bridge the gap between education and industry requirements, providing young people with the necessary tools to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.
The government has been making concerted efforts to sustain the momentum by addressing issues like increased access of children from weaker sections and minorities to education institutions, better and targeting focus to improve teacher's training and Individual Education Plan for students (IEP), filling the vacancies of teachers.
Education Budget in 2014- A total of Rs 82,771.10 crore was allocated of which Rs 68,728 crore was plan expenditure. The 2014 budget focused on addressing the shortage of teachers through training programs. For the first time, skill programmes were introduced and Rs.100 crore was allocated for virtual classrooms.
Education Budget in 2015- In 2015, the ministry was allocated Rs 69.074 crore and the focus was higher education, opening new government institutes and launching new government schemes.
Education Budget in 2016- In the 2016 Budget, Rs 72,394 crore was allocated for the education sector, a 4.9 percent increase. The budget focused on establishing India as an international education hub and also on higher education.
Education Budget in 2017- The 2017 Budget, Rs 79,685.95 crore was allocated which was later revised to Rs 81,868 crore. One of the significant announcements was the setting of the National Testing Agency, an autonomous organization to conduct entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE Main, and UGC NET.
Education Budget in 2018 - A total of 1.38 lakh crore was allocated for health, education, and social security of which 83, 010.29 crore went to the education sector. The 2018 budget introduced the 'Study in India' program to attract foreign students.
Education Budget in 2019- In the 2019 budget, Rs 94,853.64 crore was allocated, an increase of 13.4 percent. The budget of 2019 focused on the promotion of sports education.
Education Budget in 2020- In 2020, the education sector was allocated Rs 99,311.52 crore, and Rs.93,224.31 crore was allocated for the 2021-22 Budget, a nearly 6 percent reduction compared to the previous year.
Education Budget in 2022- In the 2022 Budget, the education sector was allocated Rs 1,04,277.72 crore, a substantial increase from 2021. The focus was on teachers' training, KVS, and NVS apart from various other allocations.
Education Budget in 2023- The Ministry of Education was allocated Rs 1,12,899.47 crore, close to a 13 percent increase from the previous year. 2023 budget aimed at introducing research programs, establishing research centers, and new nursing colleges.
The education sector has witnessed a rise in budget allocation since 2014. Till now, the highest-ever budget allocated to the education sector is in the year 2024. An allocation of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, employment, and skilling has been made for 2024-25. Every year, the allocation for primary education, higher education, and the education sector overall has increased every financial year along with multiple additional initiatives.
