The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) issued instructions on February 11, 2011, that said that TET will be organized by state governments and that the TET Certificate would be valid for seven years from the date of passing TET.

A person must pass the Teachers Eligibility Test in order to be considered for a position as a teacher in a school.

Previously, despite the fact that the TET pass certificate was valid for seven years, there was no limit on the number of attempts a person might make to obtain a certificate. A person who passed the exam was able to retake it in order to improve their score.

While each state administers its own TET, the Central TET, also known as the CTET, is administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
