The 60-30-10 Rule: An Efficient Study Approach

One of the best strategies to ensure consistent and focused preparation is dividing study time according to the ‘60-30-10 rule.’ Under this approach, 60% of your daily study time should be dedicated to revising the material you've already covered. Revision plays a vital role in reinforcing concepts and retaining information.

Allocate 30% of your time to tackling difficult topics or practicing test papers. The remaining 10% should be reserved for taking breaks and refreshing your mind to maintain mental clarity and energy throughout your preparation.

While revising, prioritize high-weightage topics and MP-specific general studies. Using tools like short notes, mind maps, and flashcards can make revision more effective and manageable. Additionally, solving at least two mini-mock tests daily will help simulate exam conditions and improve your test-taking skills.

Understanding Question Trends: Learn from the Previous trends

To maximize your chances of success, it’s essential to analyze previous years’ question papers. By studying the past ten years of MPPSC Prelims papers, you can identify recurring question patterns and topics. Pay close attention to the types of MP General Knowledge (GK) questions and thought-based queries that tend to be asked each year.

Understanding these trends will allow you to focus more on the areas that are frequently tested. Prioritizing these topics in your revision can significantly boost your chances of scoring well.
The Blind Spot Technique: Tackling Weak Areas

It’s normal for some subjects or topics to feel more challenging than others. To tackle this, make a list of five topics or areas where you feel least confident or tend to procrastinate. These “blind spots” are often the areas that need the most attention.

Each morning, give at least 45 minutes to these topics before moving on to other subjects. This strategy ensures that you’re addressing your weakest areas consistently, preventing them from becoming major obstacles on exam day.

Strategies for CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test)

The CSAT, a part of the MPPSC Prelims, requires precision and logical thinking. While solving CSAT questions, prioritize accuracy over speed. Start with the easier 50% of questions during mock tests to build your confidence and secure easy marks.

For math-related questions, use shortcut techniques and approximation methods to save time and enhance accuracy. Don’t forget to practice reading comprehension passages regularly aim for two to three passages daily. This will help you improve your reading speed and comprehension skills, both of which are critical for CSAT success.

Focus on MP GK and Current Affairs

For the MPPSC Prelims, a solid understanding of recent events is crucial. Stay updated with current affairs, especially from the last six months. Develop a habit of making short notes on key news events, government policies, and important developments.

Pay particular attention to topics related to Madhya Pradesh, such as its tribes, folk dances, festivals, rivers, national parks, and government schemes. A strong grasp of MP-specific knowledge will give you an edge in the exam.
